Landscape Vessel | Black Interior
My making is an impressionistic response to place and experience, specialising in hand building techniques with a focus on the vessel form, texture and surface decoration.
Iceland’s strangely addictive beauty and other worldly landscape is the inspiration for this work following a visit last summer.
A country of ancient, petrified lava fields, austere horizons of black volcanic rock, and black sand beaches, contrast dramatically with snowy white peaks, glacial tongues and icebergs on a glacial lagoon, creating a constantly shifting landscape.
The monochromatic colour palette reflects Iceland’s hues. The dribbled crackle glaze and painterly exteriors reference waterfalls and landscape.
