Edinburgh based artist Deirdre Macleod explores material and practical aspects of towns and cities, including everyday systems, processes and behaviours that are often overlooked. Increasingly, her practice sits somewhere between contemporary art and the discipline of Geography.
The Arc drawing series are part of an ongoing body of work by Deirdre Macleod which examines our experience of cities at ground level. They were prompted by sun path diagrams which are technical drawings used by urban planners to predict the effect of construction projects upon light levels on the ground.
Using an intense and repetitive drawing process, and the materials and methods of technical drawing, Deirdre’s work seeks to evoke an abstract sense of city space, place and light.
