Jenny Smith is a contemporary artist living and working in Edinburgh. Her work invites us to question our definition of drawing, re-visiting modernist concepts from a contemporary, digital perspective. Paul Klee described drawing as taking a line for a walk. This work explores that walk as a meditative, repetitive hand rendered process, which is then developed into limited edition prints, using laser cutting or blind embossing. Jenny is interested in paper as a medium that can be worked into, not just onto, and in the hand drawn and painted line as something perpetually revealing its subtlety, in repetition.
Exhibiting nationally and internationally, Jenny has won numerous Awards and has work held in public and private collections, including acquisitions of her artist books by The Tate and National Galleries of Scotland. She was a recipient of a Scottish Arts Council Creative Research and Development Award and has been shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize. Jenny is listed in the 34th edition of Who’s Who in Art.
