&Gallery specialises in a diverse and exciting range of painting, drawing and printmaking. The gallery provides a varied programme showcasing the best of Scotland, the UK and international visual artists. Each month a different featured artist’s work is exhibited within the gallery along with a constantly changing selection of ceramics, sculpture, glass and jewellery from contemporary applied artists and makers.
Gallery owner Avril Nicol graduated in 2001 from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA (Hons) degree in Tapestry. Taking a studio space in a newly opened arts centre after college, Avril continued to produce work but also found time to assist with art classes and curating exhibitions. With a natural flair for curation and a strong work ethic Avril played an integral role in the organisational development of art centre, holding the position of General manager until 2013.
From 2013 to 2016 Avril was a founding partner in &Collective art gallery (formally based in Bridge of Allan) before relocating the gallery to Edinburgh and launching as &Gallery in March 2017. Avril has built her reputation for curating modern and forward thinking exhibitions of contemporary visual and applied art. Additionally, Avril is also a founder member and Director of Forth Valley Art Beat: Central Scotland’s open studios and art event. The event has been successfully running since 2010.
